Definition and intellectual roots of collective myopia

Nobuyuki Chikudate

pp. 15-32

In medical terms, myopia refers to a condition of the eye in which a human experiences difficulty in seeing things that are far away. In layman's terms, it refers to being shortsighted when seeing anything. Since I have the condition of myopia, I know how myopic vision is. I can read any printed materials with 10-point fonts if I move my face or printed materials closer. But I can vaguely or ambiguously recognize the shapes of objects with my unaided vision. I can also walk around "within" my residence and university office with my unaided vision without slipping or hitting something.
